Description

Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter

Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter is an analogue panel instrument designed for clear and continuous measurement of alternating current in generator panels, SCR control panels, industrial switchboards and electrical control systems. This customised configuration has a dial marked from 0 to 2000 A AC and a basic full-scale input ranging from 0 to 2.5 A AC.

The instrument uses a moving-coil mechanism combined with an internal rectifier. It responds to the average value of the rectified AC waveform and is calibrated to indicate the corresponding RMS current for a sinusoidal waveform. This construction provides a long, linear scale and improved reading resolution compared with many conventional short-scale analogue instruments.

With a nominal square front dimension of 96 × 96 mm, the meter is suitable for standard panel layouts. Its knife-edge pointer and 240-degree scale provide operators with an immediate visual indication of load current without requiring auxiliary display programming or menu navigation.

Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter with 0–2000 A Scale

The customised dial of the Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter is graduated from zero to 2000 amperes AC. This displayed value normally represents the primary-system current rather than the current passing directly through the meter movement.

The basic movement reaches full-scale deflection when the input current reaches 2.5 A AC. Therefore, the meter scale and input have an effective ratio of 800:1. When used with a compatible 2000/2.5 A current transformer, a primary current of 2000 A produces a 2.5 A secondary signal and moves the pointer to the full-scale 2000 A position.

A correctly matched current transformer or equivalent signal source is essential. Using a CT with a different ratio will cause the indicated primary-current value to be incorrect even when the meter itself is operating normally.

0–2.5 A AC Full-Scale Input

The specified basic movement input is 0 to 2.5 A AC FSD. FSD means full-scale deflection, indicating that the pointer reaches the maximum 2000 A dial marking when the meter receives its rated 2.5 A AC input.

The Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter should be connected only to the intended current-transformer secondary or another compatible low-level AC current source. It should not be connected directly to a 2000 A conductor or high-current generator output.

Current-transformer secondary circuits require particular care. The CT secondary should not be left open-circuit while primary current is flowing, because a potentially dangerous voltage may develop. Installation and replacement should therefore be completed by qualified personnel using approved isolation and shorting procedures.

Moving-Coil Rectifier Measurement

The VL series uses a moving-coil rectifier mechanism for AC voltage and current indication. The rectifier converts the alternating input into a unidirectional signal that operates the moving-coil movement.

The manufacturer specifies that AC current instruments are calibrated for RMS indication based on a sinusoidal waveform and are suitable for frequencies from approximately 40 to 1000 Hz. Highly distorted or non-sinusoidal current waveforms may produce a reading that differs from a true-RMS measurement.

This characteristic should be considered in SCR-controlled equipment because phase-controlled or heavily distorted waveforms can affect the indication. Where exact true-RMS measurement of a distorted waveform is required, compatibility with the application should be evaluated before installation.

240-Degree Linear Scale

The Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter uses an extended 240-degree pointer movement with a linear coarse-and-fine scale. The long scale provides better visual resolution and makes changes in generator or load current easier to observe.

The knife-edge pointer helps reduce reading ambiguity, while the interchangeable dial design supports customised numbering and markings. This allows the 2.5 A meter movement to display a corresponding primary-system range of 0 to 2000 A.

96 × 96 mm Panel-Mount Construction

The instrument has a 96 × 96 mm front bezel and a moulded square housing suitable for control panels, switchgear panels and machinery consoles. The case is manufactured from flame-retardant, glass-filled polycarbonate, while swivel fixing screws support straightforward panel installation.

The standard size allows the Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter to be mounted alongside matching voltmeters, frequency meters, power meters and other analogue instruments in generator and SCR panels.

Before ordering or replacing the meter, users should verify the panel cutout, mounting depth, rear-terminal clearance, terminal arrangement and availability of the optional terminal-protection cover.

Accuracy and Operating Conditions

The official VL-series datasheet specifies a standard accuracy class of 1.5 under reference conditions. The stated accuracy assumes the correct mounting position, rated input, suitable ambient temperature and a waveform compatible with the rectifier-type measurement principle.

The normal operating position is vertical. Incorrect mounting angle, external magnetic fields, vibration, waveform distortion or a mismatched CT ratio may affect the displayed current.

The enclosure is specified as IP52 at the case front, while terminal protection depends on whether a rear cover is installed. The meter is intended for indoor panel installation in a suitable electrical enclosure.

Generator Panel and SCR Applications

The Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter is suitable for compatible generator control panels, SCR panels, power-distribution boards, industrial switchboards and machinery-control systems.

In generator installations, it provides a continuous visual indication of output or load current. Operators can use the analogue pointer to recognise load changes, imbalance indications or abnormal increases in current quickly.

In SCR-controlled systems, the meter may be used to monitor an appropriate AC current signal. Because SCR operation can produce non-sinusoidal waveforms, the reading should be interpreted according to the waveform characteristics and the measuring-system design.

Important Replacement Requirements

The Rishabh VL96 AC Ammeter is a customised panel meter. A replacement should not be selected solely by matching the 96 × 96 mm size or the 2000 A dial marking.

The correct replacement must match the 0–2000 A dial, 0–2.5 A AC full-scale input, moving-coil rectifier movement, scale direction, terminal configuration and intended mounting position. The associated CT ratio must also correspond to the meter calibration.

A standard 5 A, 1 A or direct-connected ammeter is not automatically interchangeable with this 2.5 A version. Installing a meter with a different input rating can produce incorrect readings and may overload the meter movement.
